From the bustling modern city streets inspired by Tokyo’s Harajuku district to the tranquil Shinto shrines connected to nature, explore the new and old traditions that coexist harmoniously in Japan.

Language Workshop for Children

Workshop times: 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm
Delight in the magic of language and culture! Learn 12 animal words (and more!) in Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, German, French and English via the latest in paper electronics, art, and music! Experience kid-sized animal cutouts, posters, and books that come to life with the touch of a finger. Enjoy a story time, craft a zoo animal from paper, and see the latest in audio books that teaches languages!
Featured music is by Jesse Lewis, four-time Grammy winning producer of Yo-Yo Ma and more!
Our beloved Big Blue Blocks are returning to the West Wing exhibit area! Join us September 7 – 22 and let your imagination guide your building!

Known for their relentless groove and breathtaking improvisation, these top young award-winning musicians bring a fresh approach to traditional bluegrass, old-time, and even work their genre-bending magic on a little jazz and funk. Jubilee is Aerie Walker, Tuki Walker, Miles Quale, and Teo Quale. They have appeared with a long list of monumental players and mentors, and the brothers were recently featured on a TEDx Talk!

SadzaMoto brings the traditional and contemporary sounds of Zimbabwe and Southern Africa to you on marimbas, mbira, electric guitar, bass, and drums, along with multipart vocal harmony in Shona, English and Zulu. This upbeat music delights and excites our audiences and appeals to listeners of all ages!

Happy Fourth of July!
Celebrate the Fourth with us! Make “sparklers” for your evening festivities, and stomp up a storm at our annual “Faux Fireworks” Bubble Wrap Stomp at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.! New this year: a “Baby Bubble Stomp” for the littlest ones to make faux fireworks in a safe environment.
In the evening, the Rotary Club of San Jose will be hosting their world-class fireworks in Discovery Meadow. Park once to visit the Museum and stay Downtown for the festivities! Find out more about the schedule and street closures by visiting www.rotaryfireworks.org.

Grammy-nominee PapaHugs, aka David Sharpe, plays heart-warming songs infused with rock, blues, and country, inspired by his children and grandchildren. David has been making music for over 20 years, often with the PapaHugs Band, who together were nominated for Best Children’s Album at the 2012 Grammys.
