Join us for a worldwide celebration of music! Make Music San José is a free, outdoor day of music held on the summer solstice with performance and music-making events. Enjoy live Zydeco music, make your own DIY ankle bells, and dance for peace in the outdoor amphitheater of the Children’s Discovery Museum. Does not require admission to participate.

By age 12, Andre Thierry had created his first Zydeco band, and has since become “a master of pumping out fast, funky rhythms on an instrument not usually associated with earthy syncopation,” according to the Washington Post. We are excited to partner with SoCal Moms for a special Great Big Family Play Day Bay Area in Discovery Meadow on Sunday, September 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Festival will feature all day live entertainment on the outdoor stage, interactive experiences for kids of all ages, rides and games, the best of everything local for families, plus food, products, samples, prize drawings and more!
Ticket Information:
General admission tickets give access to festival activities hosted in Discovery Meadow Park, Children’s Discovery Museum, and live concerts on the Main Stage between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m..
Early access tickets include access to general admission areas, as well as exclusive access between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to the Festival, Children’s Discovery Museum, and live concerts on the Main Stage before they open to the public at 11:30 a.m. Early access tickets include gift bags, ride and prize drawing tickets to get your family started on a fun-filled day. These tickets need to be purchased in advance online and are $20 per person (babies under 1 year are free).
CDM Member Hour is cancelled on this day due to this event. However, CDM members can access the festival at a special member rate of $5 per person between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. by showing their yellow CDM wristband at the festival entrance.

The Discovery Youth Showcase features artwork and special projects created by Discovery Youth program participants in 6th – 12th grade. Every week, students develop skills in media arts and civic engagement through photography, filmmaking, and volunteerism.
Discovery Youth, a Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose program, supports youth voices and interests through opportunities in leadership, creative projects, and collaboration with peers. The Museum offers this program free of charge to local San Jose students.
In Up in the Air: the art of birds, Abilities United artists explore their favorite feathered friends. From the tiniest hummingbird to a giant ostrich, birds from around the world are reinterpreted and reimagined through materials such as aluminum foil, repurposed materials and acrylic paint.

Come enjoy the Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit! after-hours at the Museum on June 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This exciting new traveling exhibit brings the award-winning PBS KIDS TV series Sid the Science Kid to life. Through fun, hands-on activities, kids will use scientific tools and thinking to learn about simple machines, the laws of motion, magnetism, airpower and the five senses.
