Costume Swap
Enjoy the fun of a new costume! Participate in our third annual free Costume Swap.
Here’s how it works:
- Register online to participate in the Costume Swap to take place at Pumpkins in the Park on Saturday, October 10
- Come to the Costume Swap with costume you aren’t using anymore
- Shop through our racks of costumes that other families have “traded-in.”
- Select a costume, and accessories as available
- Walk away happy
Costume and Book Drive
Here’s your chance to clear out some of the like-new costumes and books your family may have outgrown, and help other families have a happy Halloween! Collection bins will be set up at the Museum through October 9. Receive a free admission ticket to the Museum for each costume donated.*
You can also donate costumes, books, and other clothing and household items to the Savers locations on Parkmoor Avenue or Almaden Expressway. Be sure to tell them you were referred by Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose and you will receive a free Museum admission ticket!*
*limit four (4) free admission tickets per family, while supplies last.
Donated costumes will allow families in need to participate in our third annual Costume Swap to take place at the Museum during Pumpkins in the Park in Discovery Meadow on October 10.

What is Family Night at the Museum?
Families won’t want to miss their chance to visit the Museum after-hours for a spellbinding celebration of books and make-believe. This enchanted evening will include science magic, book giveaway, and a healthy treat trail! Add to the fun by coming in costume!

No worries! Fresh and delicious food will be available for purchase in FoodShed, our new café.

Read for the Record
Children’s Discovery Museum is honored to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record by serving as a Reading Partner and helping to break the world reading record–again this year!–for the most people reading the same book on the same day! This year’s book, written by Kelly Bennett and illustrated by Noah Z. Jones, is Not Norman: A Goldfish Story, a humorous tale about a child who finds a new friend in an unexpected place. Copies of the book will be available all day in the Theatre, so stop in and join the expected 2.4 million worldwide, who will be supporting high-quality early learning while building children’s vocabulary and love for reading, as you read Not Norman: A Goldfish Story!

Manipulate clay while being inspired by the live keyboard and guitar music of The Band You Are About to Hear.
Big Screen Sundays: “The Day of the Dead El Día de los Muertos: A Bilingual Celebration”
Multiple showings today at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
Follow two youngsters in a celebration of their ancestors on this vibrant Latin American holiday. Luscious collage illustrations and poetic text create a colorful tribute. English and Spanish versions are recounted side by side. Narrated by Rita Moreno.

Join Children’s Discovery Museum in celebrating the season of make-believe through the fun of dress-up and the joy of reading. Don your costume and take part in our “all treats, no tricks” bash featuring healthy treat stations, creative costumes, science magic, and a book giveaway.

Play Your Way is an event designed especially for children with autism, ages 2-15, and their families. The evening includes information and valuable resources for parents from local organizations that are part of our Autism Initiative. The entire Museum is open for play and is supervised by our trained employees and volunteers!

Play Your Way is a special event designed for children with autism, ages 2-15, and their families, including professional resources for parents. Enjoy the entire museum supervised by our trained employees and volunteers.

College of Adaptive Arts Heroes Outreach Team
This team is a unique, multi-age, special needs Contemporary Dance Troupe where adults with diering abilities become teachers,adult students become peer role models and everyone gets to indulgein their love of dance!
