The end of Lupe’s femur looks like it is broken. It is not actually broken; the end is not completely attached. The area of separation between the long part of the femur and the end of the femur gives space for the bone to grow! If we look at the end of a long bone like the femur and it appears separated, then we know that the animal was young and still growing.
