January 18 – June 8 in the West Wing
Come view the new traveling exhibit, Potential Space: A Serious Look at Child’s Play, featuring a striking collection of full-color photographs by award-winning photographer Nancy Richards Farese. Over the course of seven years and across 14 countries, Farese captured candid moments of children immersed in spontaneous, unstructured play, free from adult supervision. These evocative images not only celebrate the universal joy of play but also invite deeper reflection: What role does play have in our own lives, and how can we ensure that every child has the opportunity to play their way toward a healthy adulthood and a more equitable world?
But the experience doesn’t stop at the photographs. The exhibit features an interactive component designed to spark imagination and creativity in young visitors. Children are encouraged to explore the space and discover unconventional objects that they can use in their own playful, inventive ways. As they engage with these items, they’ll see firsthand how simple, everyday objects can become tools for creativity, just like the children captured in Farese’s photos. You’ll be amazed at the wonder and excitement that unfolds when images and interactive elements come together, creating a dynamic environment where art and play intersect. This exhibit is not just something to see – it’s something to experience, making it a memorable outing for the whole family.
